NERVOUS SYSTEM REFLEXES (REF)

Nervous system reflexes are automatic, involuntary responses to stimuli that don't require conscious thought. They travel through a pathway called a reflex arc, which involves sensory neurons, interneurons (in some cases), and motor neurons. These reflexes can be somatic, involving skeletal muscles, or autonomic, affecting internal organs.
KIT CONTENTS
Asymmetric Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR)
When the baby's head is turned to one side, the arm and leg on that side extend, while the opposite limbs flex.
Babinski Reflex (Plantar Reflex)
Stroking the sole of the foot causes the big toe to dorsiflex and the other toes to fan out.
Landau Reflex
a developmental reflex for postural development that is typically appearing around 3 months of age and disappearing by 12-24 months. When held horizontally on their stomach, a baby with this reflex will lift their head and arch their back, mimicking a swimming motion.
Moro/Startle Reflex
involves extending the arms and legs when startled.
Palmar Grasp Reflex
Stimulation of the palm causes a twitch of the chin muscle.
Rooting Reflex
When a baby's cheek is touched, they turn their head and open their mouth, searching for a nipple.
Stepping Reflex
When held upright with their feet touching a surface, babies will make stepping motions.
Sucking Reflex
Babies instinctively suck when something touches the roof of their mouth.
Spinal Galant Reflex
facilitates movement of the hips during descending the birthing canal
Symmetric Tonic Neck Reflex (STNR)
a primitive reflex in infants that helps them learn to move the upper and lower halves of their body independently. It typically emerges around 6-9 months of age and integrates (disappears) by 9-11 months. During neck extension (looking up), the arms straighten and the legs bend. Conversely, during neck flexion (looking down), the arms bend and the legs straighten, which can be seen as a precursor to crawling.
Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR)
causes a change in muscle tone based on head position. When the head is tilted back, the body extends (straightens); when the head is tilted forward, the body flexes (curls up). This reflex typically integrates (disappears) by 3-4 months old.
Blink / Corneal Reflex
Cough Reflex
Clearing the airway by expelling air forcefully.

Golgi Tendon Reflex
The Golgi tendon reflex is a protective mechanism that regulates muscle tension. When a muscle contracts with excessive force, Golgi tendon organs (GTOs) within the tendon detect the high tension and signal the nervous system to inhibit further muscle contraction, preventing potential injury to the muscle or tendon
Knee-jerk / Patellar Reflex
The involuntary kicking motion when the tendon below the kneecap is tapped.

Pupillary Reflex
Constricting the pupil in bright light or dilating it in dim light.
Reflex Arc
Is the neural pathway that mediates a reflex action, which is a rapid, involuntary response to a stimulus (ie. temperature, touch). It allows for quick reactions to danger without conscious thought by bypassing the brain and directly connecting sensory input to motor output within the spinal cord (ie. muscle response, gland secretion).
Sneeze Reflex
Swallow / Deglutition Reflex
Withdrawal / Nociceptive Flexion Reflex
Quickly pulling your hand away from a hot object.
Yawn Reflex
Vomiting / Emetic Reflex
