Light & Light Sources (LLS) is a collection of visible and non-visible electromagnetic radiations as well as natural and artificial light sources. These common light sources include lasers, LED, incandescent and fluorescent light.
Visible light or visible spectrum is the portion of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum that humans can see. It is the range of wavelengths that our eyes can detect, typically between 380 and 700 nanometers (nm), corresponding to the colours of the rainbow. Longer wavelengths of visible light are seen as red, while shorter wavelengths are seen as violet. The human eye cannot see ultraviolet (UV) or Infrared (IR) radiations. This kit includes signatures for several wavelengths outside of the visible spectrum.
UV-B radiation from the sun or artificial sources is needed to produce vitamin D in the skin – specifically wavelengths between 290 and 315 nanometers. UV-B breaks down 7-dehydrocholesterol in the skin to produce vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) which is converted again by liver.
This kit also includes signatures for photons and biophotons. Biophotons are photons of light produced by a biological system including the human body. They are a non-thermal type of bioluminescence in the non-visible UV and visible light ranges.
